The river acts as a natural climate regulator, tempering temperature fluctuations and protecting the vines from frost, while the steep slope falls into cool shade as early as the evening.
Pettenthal is our steepest vineyard. The vines root deeply in the meager, stony soil, impressively expressing the distinctive qualities of this unique terroir. The interplay of site, climate, and soil shapes Rieslings with an unmistakable character: saline, floral, and possessing a fine, intricately woven structure.
